Hair Receivers

Ever come upon an old dresser set that includes a little pot with a small hole in the lid? That is, probably, a hair receiver -- an old fashioned object ladies kept at hand for saving up their hair combings. The combings would then be turned into hair rats, or else used as stuffing for various household things like pincushions (which, it is said, benefitted from the hair oil as it kept the pins sharp.)

I often see old hair receivers being used as potpourri jars nowadays.
