Squee! Found this notation in The Standard Formulary:"Any [loose powder recipes] may be converted into tablet or cake form by adding a small amount of powdered tragacanth, beating into a stiff paste with water, pressing into suitable molds, and then drying."
Tragacanth is a kind of resin that mixes with water -- it's used as a binder for making incense, and other things. I hate commercial pressed powders (Mica! I think we have established on this blog my hatred for mica and anything sparkly in facial cosmetics...) and this might at last enable me to make a portable face powder that's up to my own standards! Yay!
