Fingernail Rouge

The Salve Rouge, as applied to the fingernails.

This greasy mess was, for a long time, the primary way to color one's nails. Modern nail pigments were not created until the 1920s. The Gay Lord Quex suggests that rouge and then lacquer (a not modern nail lacquer but a stickier resin-based substance) were applied. I have made some unsuccessful experiments towards this in the past, and will probably be continuing them.
