Makes the Old Young, the Plain Beautiful and Removes the Telltale Marks of Time

Big claims like these probably wouldn't be allowed in advertisements today, unless it truly were a miracle cream. But if their huge promises of reversing age and bestowing beauty to those jilted by Nature were not enough incentive, they also offered a free beauty booklet with purchase (similar to the free Sears booklet Hairdressing and Beauty Talks -- which by the way, also has instructions for facial massage.)

Research indicates that most Massage Creams were basically the same as the Cold Cream Recipes circulating at the time, with borax being a frequent ingredient. There were a few extra special blends, however -- Pompeian Massage Cream, for example, was made with milk products that exfoliated the skin. There were also some beauty experts who advised against using anything that could absorb into the skin for massage, and promoted instead using pure oil mixtures without spermaceti. "Floral Massage Cream" was, as the ad copy indicates, a specially developed product sold only by Sears.
