It's summertime, and so it seems appropriate to revisit this article about protection from the sun, circa 1900. Of course in those days the worries were more about the effect the sunlight has on one's complexion, rather than concerns of skin cancer or the like. Consequently, they recommended nasty mixtures like Gowland's Lotion in case one failed to keep off the sun's tanning rays.
