1900s -- the decade of poofy sleeves

Poofy sleeves started appearing around 1901, smallish at first, as on the girl in the red dress:

The grew rapidly, and by 1904 they were getting rather large, almost as with the previous decade's leg o' mutton sleeves:

The poof went out of fashion around 1908 when more "oriental" designs started to take precedence.
